Kohima, April 11 (EMN): A speeding taxi bearing registration No. NL 01T 9284 crashed into a retaining wall on the side of a road leading towards Dimapur, below Box Cutting Road, injuring three passengers, in Kohima on Tuesday.
The driver, identified as one Vijay, was reportedly in an inebriated state. He was ferrying three passengers including a student when the incident took place. Sources said all the occupants sustained minor injuries and they were taken to Naga Hospital for treatment. It was also reported that after learning that the driver has been ferrying passengers under the influence of alcohol which led to the accident, some angry bystanders/witnesses at the crash site manhandled the driver. "This is not the first time that a taxi driver is on duty in inebriated state. Many people complain of having encountered drunken taxi drivers. Taxi drivers, or any driver, for that matter, should not drink and drive or else this accident will not be the last... The lives of public are at stake," said a colony youth leader who was present at the crash site.
"The ANTA (All Nagaland Taxi Association) must check and penalize such drunken taxi drivers," another youth leader told Eastern Mirror.
