Dimapur, July 12 (EMN): The 27th Spero Meliora organised by the Kohima Village Students’ Union (KVSU) and Dolphin Club under the theme ‘Break the ice and steal a march’ got underway at Kohima Village Council (KVC) hall on July 12.
Several competitions like debate, essay writing (English and Tenyidie), fine arts (painting and sketching), solo singing, spelling bee and quiz will be held during the two-day event which will conclude on July 13.
Kohima Deputy Commissioner Gregory Thejawelie, who was the special guest of the two-day event, lauded the organisers for taking up the initiative that will help students discover their talents and skills. He added that it can make a positive impact on students; to realise and learn more about their cultural identities.
Thejawelie encouraged the students to make use of the programme and take up challenges. He said it is the right time to come out of the comfort zone and experience life; time to know people from around the village, and expressed hope that the students will participate at the national level one day.
The DC also asked the organisers to enrol more schools from in and around the village for the programme and encouraged the students to make use of the opportunity.
Students representing the four Khels- Tsütuonuomia Students’ Union (TSU), Lhisemia Students’ Union (LSU), Dapfütsumia Students’ Union (DSU) and Pfuchatsumia Students’ Union (PSU) are participating in the event.
For the first time, the organising committee had earlier organised an inter-school quiz competition for higher secondary students and was participated by six schools from around Kohima. Don Bosco Higher Secondary School won the first prize, followed by Baptist Higher Secondary School in the second position and TM Higher Secondary School in the third position.
