KOHIMA — The 27th Memorial Day of Capt. Neikezhakuo Kenguruse, MVC (Posthumous), was observed on Sunday at the Capt. N Kenguruse Memorial at Nerhe Phezha village in Kohima district.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt. Gen. Girish Kalia, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Corps, said that Capt. Kenguruse remains a symbol of pride, courage and achievement for the people of Nagaland.
He noted that the late officer's life has demonstrated to young Nagas that excellence, patriotism and service to the nation can coexist harmoniously with one's cultural identity and heritage.
Lt. Gen. Kalia said that over the years, Capt. Kenguruse's story has become a source of inspiration across villages, schools and communities throughout Nagaland. He remarked that such stories strengthen the very fabric of the nation.
He further stated that India is a land of immense diversity, bound together by a shared commitment to the nation and the values enshrined in the Constitution. Heroes like Capt. Kenguruse, he said, remind people that courage has no region, patriotism has no tribe, and sacrifice knows no boundaries.
The GOC also underscored the importance of memorials, describing them as not merely places of remembrance but also centres of learning, inspiration and reflection.
