The two-day Nagaland Wrestling Association’s (NWA) 25th tournament anniversary of Naga Style Wrestling and the 11th Senior & 3rd Sub-Junior Free-Style championship concluded on a high note on Friday with participation of more than 60 wrestlers in Naga wrestling and 74 wrestlers in the free-style wrestling, both male and female.
The eight weight categories that featured on the second day today included Senior Men (free-style), four categories under Senior Women, four categories under Sub-Junior Girls and seven categories under Sub-Junior Boys.
The prizes for the free-style championship in Senior (both male and female in all categories) were Rs.15,000 and Rs.8000 for the first and second place winners respectively, while the Junior level had Rs.10,000 and Rs.5000 for the first and second place winners respectively.
For the prestigious indigenous Naga Style Wrestling championship which was played on Thursday, the champion, Vechita Khesoh with a cash prize of Rs.5,00,000 and was also decorated with the late Velahu Puro Memorial Trophy along with cash award of Rs.30,000. Vekuzo Vezhü, who came second, was awarded Rs.3,00,000 while the third position holder Sürhoneyi Soho received Rs.2,00,000 and the fourth position holder, Keduovilie Zumu was awarded a sum of Rs.1,00,000. Besides the above, Nlumrai Hegwang of the Zeliang Wrestling Association was awarded the Best Tactics title.
The prizes were handed over to the winners by Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports, Khriehu Liezietsu who was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony, and Parliamentary Secretary for Higher and Technical Education, Deo Nukhu.
