Twenty-four teams from Nagaland and Assam will be vying for championship at the forthcoming 7th edition of the Silver Cup T-20 Cricket Tournament. Organised annually as part of sports ministry by Nepali Baptist Church Kohima Youth Department on the theme 'Peace and Unity through Cricket', the tournament is scheduled to begin from March 16 at Jakhama Ground.
Out of the 24 teams, 16 are from Kohima, 3 from Dimapur and 1 each from Mokokchung and Diphu (Assam).
The organizers have informed that orientation and drawing of fixture for the tournament was held on Saturday at NBCK premises at Midland with Youth Director of Lotha Baptist Church Kohima, Renthungo Kikon as the main speaker. Representatives of the participating teams were also present at the programme.Pastor Surjay Sapkota read the scripture and pronounced blessing while tournament treasurer Prakash Tiwari briefed the gathering about the sports ministry of the NBCK youth department. The inaugural match will be played on March 16 between Police Union Baptist Church and Friends Cricket Club at 10 am.
The champions of the tournament will bag Rs.70000 while runners-up will get Rs.25,000, both along with running trophies and citations. The losing semi-finalists will get Rs.5,000 each while individual awards in the category of Highest Scorer, Highest Wicket Taker and Best Wicket Keeper have also been earmarked.
