‘230 cadres from NSCN factions nabbed in 2015’

The Assam Rifles has claimed that it apprehended 230 cadres hailing from various NSCN factions in the past one year.
According to IGAR(North), during the year 2015, Assam Rifles was successful in apprehending 516 anti-social elements which included 230 cadres from various NSCN factions and 286 civilians involved in anti-social activities. The recoveries from these anti-social elements included 263 weapons and 19157 rounds of live ammunition of different calibres. Of these, 170 weapons and 16812 rounds of live ammunition were recovered from civilians not associated with any underground faction, the IGAR(N) further claimed.
It also said the different types of weapons recovered include 10 AK-47/ M-16 series of rifles, 142 pistols/ revolvers of 9mm/ pt 38/ pt 32/ pt 22 calibre, 86 rifles of calibres pt 303/ pt 22/ 12 bore etc, one Lathode Rifle of 40 mm calibre and 24 other types of local made weapons. These weapons and ammunition if left in the hands of anti-social elements can create havoc in the society especially for murders, extortion, robbery and also to incite tribal / communal clashes.
“Assam Rifles will continue to work tirelessly in living up to its motto of “Friends of the Hill People” by doing everything possible under the Sun to contain proliferation of unauthorised/ illegal arms and ammunition in the society through anti social elements and make the environment safe to live,” the IGAR(N) stated.
