Dimapur, July 4 (EMN): A total 223 new recruits including 59 mahila were inducted into the Assam Rifles in a glittering attestation parade held at Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S), Sukhovi, on July 4.
Brig. Gurjap Singh, Commandant of ARTC&S, reviewed the parade which was witnessed by a large number of audience including parents of the recruits, a press release issued by Lt. Col. Bhavana Sharma, SO-1 (Edn) said.
While addressing the recruits, the commandant highlighted the antecedents of the Assam Rifles as the oldest para-military force of the country and its diversified role which is all encompassing in the present day environment, ranging from security to providing welfare and developmental assistance to the civil population.
Terming Northeast as a strategic area, he stated that its security is of paramount importance.
He added that the Assam Rifles is playing a stellar role in this regard. He has complimented the commanding officers of training battalions and instructors for imparting value based training to the recruits for their future as trained soldiers of the nation.
The commandant also presented awards to the passing out recruits for their outstanding performance during training. Twinkle Chakma was awarded the medal for being the best all round recruit. Roshan Dhurve, Dimple Rana, Vikash Kumar and M Sunila Devi were awarded medals for best in firing. Shashi Kumar, D M Hoakip, TH Valte and Emica Marry Pasi were awarded the medals for best in drill, while Aanand Kumar, Vijay, Kartik R, and Sarojini Lakra were awarded medals for best in physical training.
