DIMAPUR — Twenty-one schools from four districts entered the race for a place in the state-level Inter School Pre-Subroto Cup as the Zone-2 tournament for U-17 boys and girls got underway at Chümoukedima Football Stadium on Wednesday.
The tournament, organised by the department of Youth Resources and Sports in collaboration with the Chümoukedima District Football Association (CDFA), has drawn participation from schools in Dimapur, Niuland, Peren and Chümoukedima.
According to DIPR report, 17 schools are competing in the boys’ category and four in the girls’ category, with the finalists advancing to represent Zone-2 at the state-level Inter School Pre-Subroto Cup Tournament scheduled to be held at IG Stadium, Kohima, in June.

The competition forms part of the selection pathway for school football and is aimed at identifying players for higher-level competition while encouraging participation in organised sport among students.
Speaking at the opening programme, District Youth Resources and Sports Officer, Chümoukedima, Wutsutho said the tournament is intended to provide young footballers an opportunity to showcase their abilities while promoting discipline, sportsmanship and interaction among students.
SDO Chümoukedima, Shreyansee Jain, who attended as special guest, declared the tournament open and encouraged participants to compete with discipline, teamwork and sportsmanship.
The opening programme was chaired by CDFA president Sedevikho T Angami, while invocation was pronounced by sports coach Khriezotuonuo Theünuo.
