Dimapur, Jan. 9: Altogether 208 persons were inducted into the Assam Rifles during a glittering attestation parade held at the Assam Rifles Training Centre and School (ARTC&S), Sukhovi, on January 9. Lieutenant General Shokin Chauhan, Director General Assam Rifles (DGAR), reviewed the parade which was witnessed by a large audience including parents of the recruits.
While addressing the recruits, the General Officer informed the gathering that Assam Rifles is the oldest para military force of the nation and has diversified roles which include guarding of north eastern borders, conduct of counter insurgency operations and assisting the civil administration in maintaining peace and security. The force also undertakes various civic action and developmental projects in the NE region for welfare of the local populace.
He complimented Brig Gurjap Singh, Commandant, and his team of dedicated staff of the ARTC&S for imparting value based training to the recruits and providing well trained soldiers for the force. The General Officer stressed that every recruit on passing out from ARTC&S should be able to live up to the expectations of his comrades, battalion, force and the country in the days to come.
He further exhorted them to keep in mind the welfare of the country and the force foremost while working with full dedication and hard work to keep the Assam Rifles flag flying high.
While complimenting the recruits for being trained well, the General Officer reminded them to live up to the name of the force “Friends of the Hill People” and its primary role “Sentinels of the North East.” He wished the young riflemen a bright and fruitful future ahead in the force.
The General Officer awarded Recruit Santosh Prasad as the ‘Best Recruit.’ Recruit Saurav Kumar, Recruit Pankaj Singh and Recruit Devendra Singh were awarded for “Best in Physical.” Recruit Deepak Mehta, Recruit Bipin Kumar and Recruit Manoj Singh Bisht were awarded for ‘Best in Drill.’ Recruit Balvinder Singh, Recruit Ravikant and Recruit Rohit Singh were awarded for ‘Best in Firing’.
Later, the General Officer was seen off for Shillong by Brig Gurjap Singh, Commandant ARTC&S.
