Diphu, May 4 (EMN): Over 200 students have received scholarship of INR 5000 in cheque under Chief Minister Relief Fund while another 29 persons received cheques of INR 10,000 to INR 20,000 for medical assistance under Diphu Legislative Assembly Constituency for the year 2021-22. The cheques were distributed during a ceremony at Kala Kendra (Diphu) on Tuesday.
While distributing the cheques, CEM of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC), Tuliram Ronghang said that the scholarship will help the students buy books and other study materials. The scheme is meant for students of Below Poverty Line (BPL) families, whose income is low.
He asked the students to be sincere in their studies and secure good result. The CEM also urged the parents and students to support in achieving quality education in the district.
Bidyasing Engleng, Diphu MLA said that not all students who applied for the scholarship could be accommodated as the funds were limited. But for the year 2022-23, if the funds increase then more students can apply for the scholarship.
Engleng stated that the scheme ‘Suhrid’ launched by govt. of Assam, under MLA-LAD programme with an additional grant of INR 50 lakh per constituency (LAC), which is an assistance provided by the MLAs to the needy citizens of their constituencies to meet their expenses -- medical and educational -- was stopped. These expenses will now be covered under Chief Minister Relief Fund.
For the year 2022-23, the funds for both educational and medical assistance will be hiked to INR 25 lakh. The scholarship amount will also be increased to INR 10, 000 per student, he said. Forms for students’ scholarship and medical assistance will be issued after May, he added.
