DIMAPUR— The Thilixu village and Toulozouma village organised a joint protest at Thilixu village on Thursday, over the deplorable condition of Doyapur road from Nagarjan road Junction to Thahekhu village gate.
After the protest, the village councils also submitted an ultimatum to the state government to immediately construct the Doyapur road, passing through Thilixu and Tolouzuma villages, within one month.
Failing to meet the deadline, the two villages shall resort to blockage of the road, the ultimatum stated.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]When contacted, the general secretary of Thilixu Village Council, Kahuto Chishi, told Eastern Mirror that the road stretch covering approximately 3 kilometres, has been a pressing issue and despite submitting representations to the department concerned in 2021 and 2022, no significant action was taken to address the road's condition, which remained unattended for several years now.
The road is currently in a deplorable condition, causing significant hardships to the residents of both villages and the public at large. However, the department has, to date, turned a deaf ear to their sincere appeal, he said.
Chishi also conveyed that if the state government failed to meet their demand, then both villages would undertake the road construction independently and fund it through the collection of taxes from the villagers.
And once they have fully recouped the expenses incurred during the road construction, the road will then be handed over to the state government, he said.
