DIMAPUR — In a remarkable achievement that further strengthens the University of Science and Technology Meghalaya’s (USTM) growing global research footprint, two faculty members of the university have been independently verified and ranked among the World’s Top 5% Scientists in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry.
The prestigious recognition has been awarded to Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta, Department of Applied Biology, and Dr. Mohit L. Deb, Department of Chemistry, for their outstanding contributions to scientific research and academic excellence, the university stated in a press release.
Their inclusion in the global registry places them among an elite group of researchers whose scholarly work has demonstrated significant impact on the international scientific community.
SciRank is a globally recognised platform that evaluates researchers based on rigorous bibliometric indicators, including research productivity, citation impact, academic influence, and contribution to knowledge creation across disciplines. Being listed among the world’s top five per cent of researchers is considered a significant benchmark of scientific excellence and global recognition.
Congratulating the scientists on their achievement, the Chancellor of USTM, Mahbubul Hoque, stated that the recognition reflects the university’s unwavering commitment to fostering a robust research ecosystem and promoting innovation-driven academic excellence.
"This achievement is a matter of immense pride not only for USTM but also for the entire North Eastern region. The global recognition earned by our faculty members demonstrates that quality research emerging from this region can compete with the very best in the world," the chancellor said.
Prof. GD Sharma, Vice Chancellor of USTM, expressed pride over the achievement and said, "The inclusion of Dr. Yugal Kishore Mohanta and Dr. Mohit L Deb among the World's Top 5% Scientists in the 2025 SciRank Global Registry is a testament to their dedication, perseverance, and pursuit of excellence in research.”
“USTM has consistently emphasised research, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration, leading to a growing number of publications in high-impact journals, patents, funded projects, and international academic partnerships.
“The latest recognition further reinforces the university’s position as one of the leading centres of higher education and research in the region,” the release added.
