Two personnel of 12th (IRB) NAP posted at Purulia (West Bengal) reportedly perished after getting drowned in a fishery pond located about a kilometer away from their camp on Sunday. The jawans have been identified as Havildar Yanbo Kikon and Steno Chenithung, both from Lotha community.
Police sources said post mortem could not be conducted today being a Sunday. However, necessary procedures will be carried out on Monday and the bodies will be taken to Kolkata, they said. The mortal remains of the two jawans are expected to be flown home to Nagaland on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Home Minister Y Patton in a statement expressed extreme shock at the untimely demise of two Naga IR jawans.
He informed that the unfortunate incident took place when they went to a fishery pond called MIRMI, some 1.5 km away from their BN HQs today and got reportedly drowned there.
“As doctors are not available today, the post mortem will be conducted tomorrow.
Thereafter their mortal remains will be taken to Kolkata on Tuesday to be flown to Dimapur. On reaching Dimapur, the mortal remains will be taken to Wokha for their last rites,” he said.
Patton said, “In their untimely death, we have lost upcoming and promising Naga policemen and the void created by their death will be difficult to fill. I am also pained to learn the untimely demise of Chonbemo Lotha of Lakhuti Village, LDA, PHQ, who passed away on August 8, 2015.”
Conveying heartfelt condolences to family members of late L Chenithung Mozhui, Hav. Yanpothung Kikon and Chonbemo Lotha, the home minister prayed for strength at this hour of grief and peace to the departed souls.
