KOHIMA, FEBRUARY 29
A passenger Tata Sumo with 10 passengers met with an accident at the border areas of Angamis and Rengmas (Botsa and Henshenyu Village) under Chiephobozou Police Station on Monday noon leaving to dead and 8 others injured. According to the North Traffic Police control room, the Tata Sumo (registration number NL02T-1223) was proceeding to Suruhuto from Dimapur when it fell 150 feet below the road killing two people, a male and a female on the spot while other passengers sustained injuries.
The deceased have been identified as Hanchila Yimchunger, 21 years d/o Makhium from Mimi village under Pungro a final year student at Kheloshe Polytechnic, Atoizu while the other identified as Vikhoto, 50 years s/o Kohoto from Surumi village.
One Lina, 19 years, who was seriously injured has been rushed to Naga Hospital Kohima, while other injured persons were treated at Botsa CHC with minor injuries.
The driver identified as Khezheto Chiso, 27 years s/o Khusheto Chisho from Khrento village was found to be in inebriated state at the time of the accident. According to the North Traffic Police, the driver of the ill-fated Tata Sumo was trying to escape after the accident. However, he was apprehended by the alert Tseminyu police personnel, and later, handed over to North Police Station, Kohima.
