Dimapur, Nov. 4 (EMN): The first Tokhu women’s volleyball trophy 2022 kicked off on Friday at the Multi-Disciplinary Sports Complex (MDSC), DC court junction, Dimapur.
The tournament is organised by the Lotha Youth Organisation Dimapur (LYOD) with the theme ‘Gender equality in sports.’
LYOD president Nzanbemo Humtsoe said the central idea behind organising the tournament was to create a platform for unity and gender equality in sports.
On the importance of sports, he said sports can bring people together in ways no other activities can. Not only can sports bring whole communities and countries together, they can also connect people on a personal level, Humtsoe said.
“Women should be given a chance to show their talent through sports as they have never been given a chance. So as we are celebrating Tokhu Emong festival we thought of bringing a change by organising the 1st Tokhu women running trophy for women to show their talent. It is indeed a small step today but hoping and praying that someday we can make it large and that a star can be born from this platform,” he said.
PMAY (urban) housing Dimapur in-charge, K Longshithung Lotha, the special guest of the inaugural ceremony, lauded the organisation for the initiative taken up to provide platform for the women to find showcase their talents in the field of sports.
Lotha remarked that the initiative will promote gender equality by teaching women teamwork, self-reliance, resilience and confidence.
