The high risk procedure of Spinal Fixation Surgery has been performed in government hospital for the first time at Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK) on a 38-year-old woman who sustained injury when a log hit her back a week ago.
Dr. Gwalozu Thong, Senior Specialist Orthopadic at NHAK said, the surgery has been carried out for the first time in a government run hospital in the state by the department of orthopadics, Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK).
According to Dr. Gwalozu Thong, spinal fixation surgery was carried out in a case of fracture dislocation of D9-D10 on the woman who sustained injury when a log hit her back. “She has paralysis of both lower limbs at present. The aim of the operation was to enable better nursing care by stabilizing the broken back bone,” he added.
He said the surgery was performed with the newly procure instruments by the hospital authority. The equipment is very costly, but it has been a long felt of our state to perform the surgery procedure, he added.
