The Prodigies Group is all set to organize the 1st Open Penalty Shoot-out Tournament under the motto “Innovating a stronger fellowship” at Seikhazou (D Khel) Ground Kohima Village on May 2.
Making the announcement through a press conference here on Saturday evening, the organizers led by Avilie Mepfhü-o said the tournament is being organized with the objective to develop an understanding of the importance of sports in the pursuit of a healthy and active lifestyle.
It also aims to develop an appreciation of the concepts of fair play, honest competition and good sportsmanship and also develop self-esteem and self-confidence through positive sporting experiences, he said.
The organisers also aspire to create a new and strong partnership with the local business communities to sponsor opportunities for people to participate in well-established sporting events, he said.
Mepfhü-o also informed that participation forms fixed at Rs. 200 are available at Sports World, Equipment and Sports in town area, Solo Enterprise in High School area and Kiran Sports and Stationary in BOC area.
The entry fee has been fixed at Rs. 1000 while last date of form submission is April 27 and the fixture would be drawn on April 29, the organizers informed.
A team comprising of seven members, five shooters, goal-keeper and manager/coach can participate in the tournament, which carries cash awards as follows: first – Rs. 30,000 with running trophy; second – Rs. 20,000; third – Rs. 10,000, fourth – Rs 5000 and Best Goal keeper – Rs. 5000.
Maintaining that some 50-75 teams, from within and outside the state are expected to participate in the tournament, the organisers said that the more teams the higher number standard size goal posts will be set up to complete the event on the day itself.
The organizers also said that besides the tournament, side attractions in the form of sales of sporting goods and jerseys, monsoon clothing and accessories would also be available at the venue.
