Dimapur, Dec. 15 (EMN): The 1st Naga Silat Competition 2021 organised by the Naga Silat Association (NSA) and presented by the Nagaland Pencak Silat Association (NPSA) was held at Immanuel Hall, Y Zhimo Colony, Signal Basti in Dimapur on Wednesday.
The competition was scheduled to be held on Dec. 8 during the Hornbill Festival but was called off in solidarity with the Oting incident.
NSA president, Khevishe Sema said that Silat was the only sport in the world with the highest medal tally and stated that the association was formed in 2016 in the state and is recognised by the department of Youth Resources and Sports, govt. of Nagaland and affiliated to Indian Pencak Silat Federation.
Dr. Andrew Ahoto, president of National People's Party (NPP) Nagaland, who was the special guest, said that as long as each of them has one cause, it does not matter which country, state or community they belong to.
He reminded them that education is important but it is not the whole package and advised the participants to practise extracurricular activities and hone their skills which are equally important as education.
Ahoto called on them to follow their calling and not be led away with pride while expressing hope that their Silat masters have instilled discipline on them which will linger on in their life ahead.
70 players are participating at the competition, which is sponsored by the Tourism department, govt. of Nagaland.
