Imphal, May 1 (EMN): Nagaland archers secured seven medals -- three gold, two silver and two bronze medals -- in the day-long first Khelo India Northeast Archery Tournament (KINAT), which concluded at Sports Authority of India (SAI) North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC) Takyelpat in Imphal on Sunday.
The three gold medal winners are Kevikieno Rikha (senior women recurve individual), Thinuohelie Metha (senior men compound individual) and Neikesa sakhrie (sub-junior girl’s compound individual).
Rikha topped the senior women recurve individual event and secured the gold medal, while her colleague, Rovine Domeh settled with a bronze medal in recurve individual. The silver medal went to Th Swasita of SAI National Centre of Excellence(NCOE), Imphal.
With 679 points, Metha claimed gold medal in senior men compound individual, while Neikesa Sakhrie, with 668 points, secured gold medal in sub-junior girl’s compound individual.
The silver and bronze medals in senior men compound individual was secured by Ch Ajey Singh of Amateur Archery Club (669 points) and Surajnganba Th of SAI Imphal. Similarly, the silver and bronze medals in sub-junior girl’s compound individual went to Senyal Thongam and Gracia, both from Vikas Archery Academy.
The two silver medalists are Kilem Meren (individual Olympic round senior recurve men) and Vesevolu Swuro (individual Olympic round junior recurve), while the bronze medallist archer was Ruovinuo Theünuo (individual Olympic round sub-junior recurve women).
The gold medal and bronze medal in individual Olympic round senior recurve men was secured by M Malemnganba of Friends Archery Club and W Leonaro of SAI NCOE Imphal.
Gold and silver medal in individual Olympic round sub-junior recurve women event were secured by Jenifer Paonam and L Rabina, both from SAI NCOE Imphal.
It may be noted that the first Khelo India Northeast Archery Tournament was held to promote and explore archery talents in the region with active participation from around 170 archers under sub-junior, junior and senior categories from SAI centres under SAI NERC Imphal in North-eastern states.
The said archery tournament was held at all the five SAI national centres of excellence including Imphal, Aurangabad, Guwahati, Kolkata and Sonipat today.
