
DIMAPUR— Dimapur Govt. College walked past Unity College with a comfortable 6 wickets win in the first match of the First Inter-College Champions Trophy 2023, kicked off at Nagaland Cricket Stadium, Sovima, on Monday.
The championship is jointly organised by the Dimapur District Cricket Association (DDCA) and Chümoukedima Cricket Association (CCA) under the aegis of Nagaland Cricket Association.
Having won the toss, Dimapur Govt. College (DGC) elected to field and restricted Unity College (UC) to 78 runs for 9 wickets in 15 overs in a match affected by rain.
Pankaj Das (18 runs), Md Shakir Ahmed (13 runs) and Sumit Basak (13) runs were the only notable scorers for UC after Saurav ran havoc with the ball for four wickets, ably supported by Chandemo Odyuo and Avoy Dey with two wickets each.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]DGC had a shaky start as their opener was dismissed in the very first delivery of the innings and their second batsman in the third delivery. However, they were able to chase down the target in 11.1 overs losing four wickets. Alok Sharma (56 runs not out) was also declared Man of the Match.
In the second match, Salt Christian College (SSC) bundled out Tetso College for 56 runs in 16.5 overs. None of the batsmen could score a double figure as the wickets fell at regular intervals. For SSC, Raj Babu Prasad took four wickets while Dip Borah and Sahail took two wickets each.
In the run chase, SSC was able to achieve the target in just 10.1 overs losing two wickets with Dip Borah scoring 25 runs and Raj Babu Prasad 15 runs.
Man of the Match was awarded to Raj Babu Prasad for his 4 wickets and 15 runs knock.
Meanwhile at Sovima Cricket Ground, the first match between JN Aier College and St. Joseph University (SJU) ended in a tie.
JN Aier College (JNAC) having won the toss elected to bat first in the rain shortened game. In the match shortened to 15 overs, JNAC managed to put up on a formidable 112 runs losing eight wickets. Vitoka top scored with 32 runs and Robin contributed 28 runs.
[bsa_pro_ad_space id=1]In the run chase, SJU got off to a good start. But after the fall of the opener Kabel who contributed 22 runs, they kept losing their wickets at regular intervals. Sulanthung (20 runs) and Kitiki (19 runs) were the other notable run getters.
Eventually they could only level the score and ended at 112 all out in 15 overs resulting in a tie. JNAC’s Vitoka Aye was named the Man of the Match for his all-round contribution with both bat and ball.
The second match played between Public College of Commerce (PCC) and NIT Nagaland was abandoned due to rain. Both teams walked off with one point each.
