IMPHAL — The first death anniversary of Operation Sindoor victim, Deepak Chingakham, a BSF constable from Manipur, was held at his locality in Imphal East district on Monday.
Manipur Home Minister Govindas Konthoujam, MLA Th Shyamkumar of Andri Assembly Constituency, Inspector General Ravi Kant of the BSF (Manipur & Cachar Frontier)-led officers, and a large number of Yairipok locals, mostly women, in their mourning attires attended the anniversary.
Chingakham, son of Bonbihari, who was serving with 7th Battalion of BSF, succumbed to his injuries sustained during the unprovoked cross-border firing by Pakistani forces in the RS Pura Sector of Jammu & Kashmir on May 20, 2025.
“Though a year has passed, the legacy of his courage, patriotism, and unwavering devotion to duty continues to inspire every Indian heart. His bravery stands as a timeless reminder of the immense sacrifices made by our armed forces to safeguard the peace, freedom, and security we cherish each day,” Home Minister Konthoujam later posted on social media.
“On this day, we stand in solidarity with his family and loved ones, expressing our deepest respect, gratitude, and prayers. While heroes may leave this world, their spirit lives on forever in the soul of the nation they protected with honor and pride. Rest in Power, Braveheart. Your sacrifice, valor, and service to the motherland will never be forgotten,” he added.
It may be mentioned that Vir Chakra awardee martyred BSF personnel Deepak’s younger brother Chingakham Naoba Singh, had been appointed as an Assistant Sub-Inspector of Police in the Manipur Police department in recognition and in honour of his late brother's supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during Operation Sindoor.
