MEDIA mogul Simon Cowell has suggested that popular boy-band One Direction should take a break.
Cowell, 55, who has been the band’s longtime mentor, said it is the perfect time for the band to take “some time off” and try other things, reported Billboard. “In terms of the band, they’ve got enough hits now they can take some time off and do some other stuff they want to do,” he said.
Cowell said the band can get back together after their break. “Then I hope they’ll have a little bit of time apart and want to get back together again. It’s a fun job, but it’’s absolutely their decision.”
One Direction fans are still having a tough time coping with the idea that band member Louis Tomlinson is expecting a child. The boy band member needed a little help when he first found out the baby news, and turned to his mentor, Simon Cowell.
According to Cowell in an interview with The Sun, Tomlinson came to him for advice when he first learned that he had gotten his friend and former lover Briana Jungwirth pregnant.
“I said to him, ‘You man up. You’re fortunate because you’re in a position to be able to look after the baby and not worry too much about that.’” Cowell recounted, referring to the 23-year-old singer’s wealth.
“I also told him, ‘I’ve received bad calls in my life but this is not one of them. This is your business but I’m here for you,’” Cowell added.
The former American Idol judge also shot down rumors that Tomlinson’s impending fatherhood will damage the band’s image of being family friendly.
“He didn’t kill anyone. He got someone pregnant. It happens every day all over the world,” Cowell explained. “Again, Louis has got great family around him and, look, it’s a plus, not a negative.”
