Dimapur, July 5 (EMN): The Joint Committee on Prevention of Illegal Immigrants (JCPI) has given its approval to the state government’s move to implement the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants Nagaland (RIIN).
A press release from the committee on Friday informed that it conducted a meeting with apex tribal bodies on Friday at Hotel Saramati in Dimapur to discuss the issue.
“In order to prevent inconsistent enumeration the meeting resolved that December 1, 1963 should be the cut-off year for all indigenous Inhabitants other than the recognised Naga tribes of Nagaland as per the government notification of 1977. In case of verification for any Naga indigenous tribes of Nagaland, their native/ancestral village will have the final say. The meeting also resolved that the responsibility delegated for enumeration should be indigenous inhabitants of Nagaland who are known for their dedication and integrity,” read the statement.
The committee lauded the state government for setting up the RIIN and resolved to extend cooperation to the authorised implementing agencies.
“The meeting resolved that the tribal apex bodies along with their village councils and GBs, should be given vetting authority and responsibility to judiciously carry out this important extensive survey under their respective jurisdictions as per their customary practices,” it stated.
