19 new Covid cases in Nagaland; another record single-day spike in India

Dimapur, April 18 (EMN):
Nagaland recorded 19 new Covid-19 positive cases on Sunday, taking the state’s tally to 12555.

Further, Minister for Health and Family Welfare, S Pangnyu Phom in a Twitter update informed that out of the 19 new cases, 14 were in Dimapur, four in Kohima, and one in Longleng, while the state also reported eight recoveries in Kohima.

Further, the minister shared that the surge in the number of Covid cases was a “warning to all of us.” “The govt & the dept is doing all it can to tackle the pandemic effectively like we did it last year.

“Covid19 is not over yet & all support and cooperation from our citizens to defeat it is required because govt. alone can’t win the battle. Please get vaccinated if you are eligible and follow COVID19 SOPs strictly. #togetherwecan,” he tweeted.

According to state Health department data, Nagaland currently has 176 active Covid-19 cases, out of which 155 are asymptomatic, 17 mild and four moderate on oxygen. The state also registered 12110 recoveries and 94 deaths out of which 10 were ruled ‘not Covid-related’.

In regard to district-wise distribution of Covid-19 cases, Dimapur has 102 active cases, 53 in Kohima, 10 in Mokokchung, six in Phek, four in Longleng and one in Wokha, while the remaining districts are Covid-free

Highest single-day rise of 2, 61, 500 cases

India registered 2, 61, 500 new Covid cases in the last 24 hours, according to the data provided by the Union Health Ministry.

It said that India’s total active caseload has reached 18, 01, 316.

The five states of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh, Karnataka and Kerala cumulatively account for 65.02% of India’s total active cases while Maharashtra alone accounts for 38.09% of the total active caseload of the country.

The death toll increased to 1, 77, 150 with a record 1,501 new fatalities.

The Health ministry stressed that more than 70 per cent of the deaths occurred due to co-morbidities.

“Our figures are being reconciled with the Indian Council of Medical Research,” the ministry said on its website, adding that state-wise distribution of figures was subject to further verification and reconciliation.

Further, India’s cumulative recoveries was at 1, 28, 09, 643 on Sunday, while the national recovery rate was 86.62%.

Covid-19 vaccination breaches 12 crore

The cumulative number of Covid-19 vaccine doses administered in the country crossed 12 crore on Sunday. The data informed that cumulatively, 12, 26, 22, 590 vaccine doses had been administered through 18,15,325 sessions, as per the provisional report till 7 am today.

These include 91,28,146 HCWs who have taken the 1st dose and 57,08,223 HCWs who have taken the 2nd dose, 1,12,33,415 FLWs (1stdose), 55,10,238 FLWs (2nddose), 4,55,94,522 1st dose beneficiaries and 38,91,294 2nd dose beneficiaries more than 60 years old and 4,04,74,993 (1st dose) and 10,81,759 (2nd dose) beneficiaries aged 45 to 60 years.

It said eight states account for 59.5% of the total doses given so far in the country. The four states of Gujarat (1,03,37,448), Maharashtra (1,21,39,453), Rajasthan (1,06,98,771) and Uttar Pradesh (1,07,12,739) had so far administered more than 1 crore doses each to their population.

“India took only 92 days to reach 12 crore vaccinations, the fastest country to do so. It is followed by the US which took 97 days and China (108 days),” it added.
