Dimapur, September 2 : 17 children of a Dimapur-based children’s home which was under the scrutiny of the Dimapur Child Welfare Committee (CWC)—after allegations of negligence on August 21, 2016—have been handed over to their parents and legal guardians after a hearing on September 1, 2016, by the CWC of Dimapur. This was informed to Eastern Mirror by reliable resources on Friday, September 2.
As per the directives of the CWC, the proprietor of the children’s home produced himself along with the four remaining children on September 1, and agreed to hand over the children to their parents and legal guardians. Based on conclusions that the home was not fit for children to live in, 17 children that included three girls and 14 boys were relocated on September 1.
The children were relocated with their consent, their parents, and their legal guardians, the CWC informed. The hearing on September 1 was attended by parents, legal guardians, the ENWOD, the ENSUD, and the ENPUD.
Most of the children are reportedly from the eastern areas and the alleged case of negligence came to light when six children were apparently apprehended for shoplifting in Dimapur. Upon enquiry, it came to light that the children were allegedly 'neglected', members of the Eastern Nagaland Women’s Organisation of Dimapur (ENWOD) and Eastern Nagaland Students Union Dimapur (ENSUD) stated.
As per the ENSUD and the ENWOD, it was also not known how said children were brought to the children’s home and disclosed that 13 children were from the eastern areas.
According to reliable sources, the proprietor was left without any obligation after the case was heard and agreed to hand over the children to their parents and legal guardians.
