Dimapur, Dec. 11 (EMN): The 16-day ‘activism against gender-based violence’ which commenced on Nov. 25, with the
observation of the ‘International Day for Women Against Violence,’ under the theme, “Leave no one behind: End Violence against Women and Girls,” culminated on Dec. 10, coinciding with Human Rights Day.
With the phase-I started by the 181 Women Helpline Nagaland, the second and third phase were carried out by the One Stop Centre (OSC), Dimapur and Kohima respectively.
The phase- II, 16-days ‘activism against gender- based violence’ was carried out by OSC Dimapur at various community health centres at Dimapur from Dec. 1 to the 5th. The OSC team targeted primary health centres as they are one of the most important grassroots level service providers accessible by the community.
The team visited Medziphema and Dhansiri community health centres; Niuland and Chümukedima primary health centres and Duncan, health sub- centre. They also generated awareness to the care givers in these health centres about the issue of violence against women prevalent in the society.
From Dec. 6 to the 10th, OSC Kohima carried out the phase-III campaign. The Kohima team attended the Ferrando Domestic Workers Alliance (FDWA) and FDWA Children’s Club. The centre administrator of OSC, Vikhoriano Meru sensitised domestic workers on Sakhi-One Stop Centre and 181- Women Helpline. The OSC and Sisterhood Network also had a constructive interactive session where in to collaborate and promote activism against gender-based violence.
The two teams also appraised each other on the objectives and services provided by OSC and Sisterhood Network. They had
a consultative meeting with the Anganwadi workers, Perizie High School localities and officials and the Nepali community.
The team also shared about the presence, importance and services provided by the One Stop Centres and Women Helpline 181.
The OSCs successfully carried out the 2017 theme which reinforces the UNiTE campaign’s commitment to a world free of violence against women and girls around the world to targeted groups in Nagaland, the release informed.
The 16-days activism ended successfully with the motto to “Orange the world everyday and to live a world free of violence against women and girls; and to accentuate on the Right to Education”.
