Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): The 14th M Noke Trophy, an inter-club football tournament organised by the Mon District Football Association (MDFA), kicked off at Mon town local ground after the opening ceremony on October 15.
An update from the organisers informed on Tuesday that contractor Methlow Konyak was the special guest of the inaugural programme.
Konyak encouraged the youth of Mon to look at the scope in football and challenged them to display their skills and play in true sportsmanship.’ He also appreciated the organisers of the tournament and wished them success.
The president of MDFA, Manjun delivered welcome address at the inaugural programme.
In the first match of the tournament, defending champions Unity Meinlong started their campaign on a winning note by defeating Concern Chee Forum (CCF) 5-1.
Y Laphong scored two goals for Unity Meinlong and one goal each from Lima, Angki and Menguzelie, while Khampei scored the lone goal for Concern Chee Forum, an update from the organisers informed.
In the second match of the opening day, Mavericks FC defeated Sporto FC 2-1. David and Hechang scored a goal apiece for Mavericks FC, while Wangpai scored for Sporto FC.
