KOHIMA — S Keoshu Yimkhiung, advisor for youth resources and sports, said on Thursday that the state government and his department are fully committed to grooming young talent in every possible way and encouraged the youth to utilise available platforms to achieve their ambitions and bring laurels to their state.

He stated these during the 14th edition of the state-level U-14 ‘Catch Them Young Tournament (Taekwondo)’, which is underway at the Indira Gandhi Stadium (IGS) in Kohima.

Speaking as the special guest at the opening ceremony, Yimkhiung reminded the participants that competitions are not solely about winning, but also about winning hearts through disciplined behaviour.

He recognised that the understanding and treatment of sports have evolved over time, and advised the participants to regard sports as a serious endeavour and pursue a professional career.

Drawing on the example of successful athletes, he urged them to manage their time wisely and focus on their career goals. However, he also reminded the participants to maintain balance in their lives while striving for success.

During the programme, a duet was performed by Nchumthung Ngullie and Ongaroni Ngullie, while the oath was administered by Tenloi Phom.

The opening ceremony was chaired by commissioner and secretary Wezope Kenye.

A total of 15 districts with 130 participants are participating in this edition of the two-day event. The closing ceremony will be held on Friday at 3 p.m. with R Ramakrishnan, development commissioner and principal secretary, law and justice, as the special guest.
