Dimapur, Sept. 1 (EMN): The department of Horticulture, Government of Nagaland, organised an inaugural programme on training and distribution of home scale preservation equipments under Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojona (RKVY) at State Horticulture Nursery in Dimapur on August 31. Home scale preservation equipments were distributed to 14 beneficiaries during the event.
The principal secretary of horticulture, MK Mero told the selected beneficiaries to be sincere and made good use of the facilities provided by the department as they were selected from among citizens of the state, informed an update from DPRO Dimapur. He also spoke on the importance of processed food which can be preserved and asked the beneficiaries to experiment with the equipments.
Lamenting on the amount of food wasted due to lack of processing facilities, Mero maintained that 20 to 30 percent of food and vegetable is wasted in India. However, he is optimistic that the beneficiaries from the state would increase food production with the help of the equipments given to them.
Director of horticulture Dr. R Elithung Lotha reminded the beneficiaries on the importance of various training programmes which were basically conducted to help the trainees.
The update informed that deputy director Meyasashi conducted the technical session on scope of fruits and vegetables preservation, objective and technologies of home scale preservation and dehydration of fruits by using solar drier.
