IMPHAL, Dec. 12: Around 1300 goods-laden trucks left Jiribam district headquarters with security cover for the state capital, reports reaching here said. The step has been taken by the state authority in view of the indefinite economic blockade on National Highways in Manipur by United Naga Council (UNC) entering 42nd day on Monday.
The UNC called the blockade since November 1 midnight in protest against the move to declare Sadar Hills and Jiribam as full-fledged districts. Since then, the people of the State have been facing hardship due to unavailability of essential commodities particularly the food grains and petroleum products.According to reports from Jiribam, the goods trucks which were on their way to Imphal included 631 groceries-laden trucks, 413 cement, 112 FCI trucks, 67 diesel, 38 petrol, 30 LPG bullet and 2 ATF tankers and 5 medicine trucks.
Meanwhile, around 100 goods-laden trucks arrived at Jiribam and are waiting for security cover for their onwards journey to Imphal, sources added.
