IMPHAL, March 31(EMN): A 13 member delegation from Royal Bhutanese Government including a lady visited Centre for Orchid Gene Conservation of Eastern Himalayan Region (ORDC) and North East Centre for Ethno Medical Research Centre (EMRC) at Hengbung, about 55km north of here in Manipur’s Senapati district.
On their arrival at the picturesque Hengbung, the delegation led by Secretary Pema Chawang of National Land and Commission Service, Royal Government of Bhutan was given hearty warm reception by Foundation for Environment and Economic Development Service (FEEDS), Hengbung, the Host institute of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, ORDC and EMRC. The visit is the outcome of the significant Indo-Bhutan Dialogue Track 2,
Retired IAS officer Vijay Chibber, President Haokholet Kipgen of FEEDS, Scientist Dr HB Singh of Department of Science and Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology and Director Dr Rao of ORDC apart from the FEEDS/KVK staffs and Senapati District Administration attended the reception function on Thursday.
Appreciating the Bhutan delegate for the visit, Vijay Chibber said Bhutan is the only country in the world that have Negative Carbon Footprint(NCF) and the same could be obtained here in Manipur if the people have the same fashion and ideas of the Bhutanese.
NCF is a process that have permanent removal of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide from earth’s atmosphere It is considered the direct opposite of carbon dioxide emission, hence its name
He also lauded the initiative of FEEDS in bringing up such a unique centre which has education as well as job opportunity for educated youths.
President of FEEDS also expressed the need to have a better relationship and understanding among the two countries.
“We have lots of things to learn from these projects where lots of research in orchid, medical plants, etc has been done and commendable employment for many educated unemployed youth has been generated,” Bhutan delegation leader and Secretary Pema Chawang after visiting the Hengbung model told this reporter. “We also love to replicate the backyard farming particularly the piggery and Of course the cultivation of medicinal plants and orchids.”
Terming the Hengbung centre a unique and a centre of relevant not only to the Himalayan region and India but the world, he said that the Indo-Bhutan Dialogue is not only important in political level but also in other issues where we can have formal discussion, to learn each other from failure, experience and exposure while adding that we are here to study and learn so many things from the centre. The Bhutanese delegation is likely to leave for Thimphu via Guwahati on Saturday and Sunday.
