In a gruesome incident, an IRB constable attacked his colleagues with a Naga dao (machete) while they were relaxing at their 12 NAP (IR) camp in Tuli town around 4.30 pm today, killing one on the spot and grievously injuring two other colleagues.
The accused attacked the three non combating employees (NCE) unexpectedly without any valid reasons, sources said.
The accused has been identified as Constable Atoka Sumi of 12 NAP (IR) while the deceased has been identified as NCE Rajesh. The slain NCE was reportedly hit on the face and died instantly. The two injured - NCE Ram Das and Constable Manohar Ram - were hit on the head. They have been shifted to Dibrugarh Medical College Hospital from Tuli Community Health Centre. Their condition is said to be critical.
SDPO Tuli, talking to Eastern Mirror, said though the reason behind the attack could not be known, the accused has been kept under the custody of Tuli Police Station and a case registered under Section 302/307 IPC. The slain NCE has been kept at Tuli Police Station and post mortem of the body will be conducted tomorrow.
The IRB jawans are preparing to leave for West Bengal on September 12.
