10th Captain (Late) N Kenguruse MVC Memorial Football Tournament will be held in Kohima and Chümoukedima from November 2 to 10.
KOHIMA — The 10th edition of the Captain (Late) N Kenguruse Mahavir Chakra Memorial Football Tournament will be held from November 2 to the 10th at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in Kohima and Chümoukedima Football Stadium, with a total prize pool of INR 8,69,000.
This was announced during a press conference by Tijo Joseph, Commandant of 17 Assam Rifles, on behalf of IGAR (North), Kohima, in the presence of representatives fromNagaland Football Association (NFA), supported by the Kohima District Football Association (KDFA) and Chümoukedima District Football Association (CDFA) at Chieswema Garrison (AR) on Monday.
The tournament will be conducted under the aegis of Spear Corps (Indian Army) and HQ IGAR  in collaboration with the Nagaland Football Association, supported by the Kohima District Football Association, and Chümoukedima District Football Association.
Joseph informed that the tournament will be played on a knockout basis, with a total of 20 matches.
The opening ceremony and pool matches up to the quarter-finals will be conducted from November 2 to the 6th at Indira Gandhi Stadium, Kohima. The semi-finals, third-place match, final and closing ceremony will be held at Chümoukedima Football Stadium from November 7 to the 10th.
He said that 20 teams are expected to participate in the tournament and that the teams will be divided into four pools of five teams each. Joseph announced that registrations will open at 6 am on September 1 and close at 8 pm on September 30.
He informed that registration will be free for players, while entry will also be free for spectators. He said the organisers are generally looking for one team from each district, along with teams from Nagaland Police and 164 Infantry Battalion (TA), and two teams from some bigger districts.
The total prize pool for the tournament is INR 8.69 lakh an increase of INR 2.22 lakh from the ninth edition. The champions will receive INR 4 lakh, the runners-up INR 2 lakh and the third-placed team INR 1 lakh.
For individual prizes, the Golden Boot winner will receive INR 20,000, while the Best Goalkeeper and Best Midfielder will receive INR 10,000 each. The Best Player of the Tournament will receive INR 15,000.
The manager of the winning team will receive INR 8,000 and the manager of the runners-up will receive INR 5,000. The coach of the winning team will receive INR 8,000 and the coach of the runners-up will receive INR 5,000. The physio of the winning team will receive INR 8,000, while the physio of the runners-up will receive INR 5,000.
Roko Angami, Treasurer of NFA, said that the semi-final and final matches will be played at Chümoukedima due to renovation work that will take place at Indira Gandhi Stadium during that period.
