DIMAPUR, OCTOBER 28
‘1098’, a free dialing telephone number is India’s first 24-hour, free, emergency phone service for children in need of aid and assistance.
With children facing so much of domestic abuses, child labour, child trafficking, etc the need for ‘1098’ toll free help line has become a ‘must know’ public awareness where anybody from anywhere can seek assistance and guidance towards rescuing children.
The ‘1098 toll free’ which is active since the the year 2012 has finally taken a major step towards creating more awareness and educating the public in general.
The Childline Dimapur under the Prodigals’ Home and other affiliated NGOs on Wednesday inaugurated the first batch of 14 hoardings of the 24 hour service child helpline which will be put up in all police stations under Dimapur district reaching till Medziphema Police Station and Niuland Police Station and all check posts.
The first hoarding was put up inside the premises of DC Office Dimapur with Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Kesonyu Yhome as the special invitee.
Kesonyu Yhome who is also the Chairman of the Advisory Board Childline said that Childline which is a serious affair across India is a very important project that aims in providing shelter towards children who are in distress and who need attention.
The officer said that the lack of awareness in the society is not only with the uneducated class but it is also missing among many educated households who failed to make use of the ‘help free toll free’ number when needed. Kesonyu Yhome said it is one of the most common medium where anybody can make use of it.
Anybody can dial the toll free number when you see a child is in need of medical help, an abandoned child, an abused child, a missing child, a child in need of emotional support/ guidance and a child below 14 years of age working in garage, tea shops or any kind of child labours.
The first batch of 14 hoardings is being sponsored by various concerned individuals, groups and organizations.
It is worth noting here that the Childline is a project sponsored by the Ministry of Women and Child Development, Government of India in partnership with the state government, NGOs, international donors, cooperate sectors, concerned individuals and children.
