109 undertrial prisoners and 8 juvenile released on parole

Under Trial Review Committee meeting in progress at Tuensang.

Dimapur, April 19 (EMN): As per the direction of the state government, the High Power Committee (HPC) has released 109 undertrial prisoners and eight juvenile on parole.

The state government  constituted the HPC on March 30, headed by Justice S Serto and executive chairman of the Nagaland State Legal Services Authority with principal secretary (Home) Abhijit Sinha and ADG (Prison) Renchamo P Kikon as members, an update from public relations assistant informed.

The committee comprises of district and sessions judge, superintendent of Police,  superintendent of Jail and a panel lawyer.

Under-Trial Review Committee (UTRC) meeting was convened in different districts under the district legal services authorities during the last few days.

The UTRC committee has been directed to meet every week and take decision in consultation with the concerned authority in view of the direction of apex court.
