NNN SHILLONG, February 8 In a delayed report, a ten year old resident of Tura, who was in Baghmara with his partially adopted family lost his life after going missing on the 30th of Jan. The young boy lost his life after being electrocuted when he touched the very low over head 11 KV high tension (HT) wires just above the newly constructed school building. The incident has sparked a blame game with the parents of the child blaming the adopted family for negligence while also seeking action against the persons responsible for the accident. The ten year old boy has been identified as Aryan Morgan M Sangma and was a resident of Dakopgre in Tura. “The overhead high tension wires are only 3-4 feet above the roof of the new building in the RC Compound SSA School. From the little that is known, the boy may have playfully climbed the roof and accidentally touched the live wires. He was killed on the spot”, said a resident of Baghmara in South Garo Hills. A highly placed police source said, “Seemingly, the school authorities constructed the new SSA building after getting funds and they did so under the high tension wires. Common sense should have prevailed and the school authorities should have asked the MeECL for permission before the construction or asked for the wires to be moved elsewhere”. “They did not and amazingly even the engineer continued with the construction without thinking. Common sense should have prevailed and proper care should have been taken. Though the building was under lock and key, they should have understood that the school was for children and an accident could take place. The wires were almost touching the building”, added the source. “This is an absolute case of negligence by the school authorities for allowing construction of a building below such low over head wires within the school. 3-4 feet is just not enough. They should have taken care to ensure the wires were higher so that accidents like this do not happen”, said an uncle of the killed boy, Soshan Sangma. Meanwhile, the adoptive family is also being charged by the family of the boy for their negligence in talking care of the boy. “They did not even look for the boy initially and only lodged a missing report two days later. When we asked them, they said the boy was on his way to Baghmara and was near Dalu. It was only after the body was found that things became clear. The boy had reportedly been missing on the 30th of Jan and is most likely to have died the same day from the accident. A post mortem on the body was done after the discovery of the body. An investigation into the incident is currently on.
