10 schools in Mon declared tobacco-free

DIMAPUR — The deputy commissioner (DC) of Mon, Ajit Kumar Verma, has declared 10 schools, one senior citizen home and one rehabilitation centre in Mon district as tobacco-free.

Verma made this declaration during the District Level Coordination Meeting (DLCC) of National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP), Mon, held on Tuesday.

Speaking in the meeting, the DC emphasised on strengthening Section 6 of COTPA Act 2003 in all the subdivisions of Mon district in order to protect the school children from the harmful effects of tobacco.

The district nodal officer of NTCP, Mon, Dr. Esther Chophy Ngullie, has thanked the school proprietors for their hard work and cooperation in restricting the use of tobacco within the school premises.

The meeting was attended by the administration officers including ADC of Mon, Pakon Phom, SDO (Civil) Rongsenmenla, CMO Dr. Supongmenla Walling, additional SP of Mon Ilam Lungalang, senior SDEO, school principals, Excise inspector, NTCP staff etc.
