DIMAPUR — To strengthen unity and friendship between Western Sumi and Chakhroma communities, the Western Sumi Baptist Akukuhou Kuqhakulu (WSBAK), in celebration of the platinum jubilee, erected a dining hall for the Chakhroma Baptist Church Council (CBCC) at the CBCC mission centre in Medziphema.
During the dedication programme of the dining hall on Monday, the executive secretary of WSBAK, Rev. Pughoto Sema, reminisced about the historical bond between the Western Sumi and the Chakhroma communities, predating their split in 1947.
He reiterated that during the 75th year celebration on December 11, 2022, WSBAK extended an invitation to the CBCC choir, with 130 choir members participating. In gratitude for their participation, WSBAK felt the need to recognise the bond of brotherhood and thus committed to constructing a dining hall at the CBCC mission centre.
He also acknowledged the CBCC for granting WSBAK the opportunity to express gratitude and undertake the construction of the facility.
Kheto Zhimomi, representing the Western Sumi Hoho (WSH), also recounted the shared history of Western Sumi and Chakhroma people cohabiting before their division in 1947.
He encouraged leaders that whenever issues arise between the two tribes, it would be beneficial to address them through individual platforms rather than treating them as tribal issues or fostering tribalism.
Rev. Yovotsol Kikhi, president of CBCC, expressed that the CBCC mission centre was in dire need of a dining hall and therefore acknowledged WSBAK for constructing it. Alongside the hall, WSBAK has also built a Naga kitchen, toilet, and other essential amenities.
He urged WSBAK and CBCC to unite in Christ and collaborate closely. It was noted that CBCC comprises a total of 38 recognised churches and three fellowships.
