Dimapur, Oct. 26 (EMN): Women and child welfare agencies conducted programmes at various welfare establishments such as the Youth Mission Children Home, Seikhazou, Eden Garden Children’s Home, and T Khel government middle school, from October 11 to the 26th.
The programmes were conducted in commemoration of the Girl Child Month, a press release from the organisers issued on Saturday gave updates about the event.
The State Resource Centre for Women (SRCW), the 181-Women Helpline, district level centre for Women (MSK), and Sakhi-One Stop Centre conducted the programmes as part of initiatives of the Nagaland State Social Welfare Board (NSSWB).
‘Both care giver homes and the institutions were made to compete through art, painting and drawing competitions, based on the theme, 'Little girls with dreams become women with vision,”’ the press release stted.
‘Children of the classes 2-10 took part in the competition and prizes were distributed as well. The team engaged the students in recreational activities. The staff contributed bags of rice and other eatable items to the care giver homes as gesture of love and care.’
During the event, the organising members highlighted the significance of the International Girl Child Month campaign and the objectives of the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme. Topics of adolescent wellbeing, career guidance, personal health and menstrual hygiene; and the concept of ‘good touch’ and ‘bad touch,’ besides anti-bullying Acts formed the points of discussions conducted by the Women Helpline and MSK teams, the press release stated.
The resource persons also educated the children about important services that are being provided by the 181-Women Helpline and Childline 1098, the organisers stated.
‘The deans from both the care giver homes and the institution as well warmly welcomed the team by looking forward for more programmes to be organised and collaboration in the coming days,’ the press release added.
