Dimapur, Jan. 7 (EMN): A war of words has erupted between the Naga Peoples’ Front (NPF) and Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) after the former accused the People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government of trying to poach its MLAs. The Leader of Opposition last week accused the PDA government of trying to poach its MLAs, triggering a political slugfest between the parties. However, the NDPP denied it, terming NPF’s claim as “a public display of the insecurity of the opposition party and the lack of confidence they have on their own elected representatives.” The war of words continues with the NPF now getting personal by accusing Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio of trying to “to play his old games on the much committed and sincere NPF MLAs” but said its party members will “never succumb to his old tricks.” The party went on to claim that “PDA government may collapse anytime.” NPF went on to say that it will “play a constructive opposition” and not “interested to topple the PDA coalition government as it will fall itself any moment.” It also took a pot-shot at the NDPP-led PDA government, accusing it of intentionally staying away from the Citizenship Bill. However, the state Cabinet on Monday opened up on the bill by passing a resolution to ask the central government to review it and that an all-party meeting would be convened in the state to examine the issue in its entirety. Meanwhile, former CM and the Leader of Opposition T.R. Zeliang has once again brought up the grant-in-aid fund on Monday by writing a letter to the governor of the state to investigate into the delay in the release of INR 96 crore to the village development board (VDB) by the department of Rural Development. It may be mentioned that the department of Rural Development had on Sunday clarified Zeliang’s doubt through a statement. It said the release of fund to the VDBs is subject to the certain procedure and added that it cannot be misused as the DPDB is responsible for all implementation of the VDB schemes. It went on to say that the blocks under Peren and Dimapur districts and some blocks under Mon have been cleared, while the remaining blocks are yet to complete the required formalities.
