KOHIMA, MAY 27 : Meet the first two Naga who have earned a doctorate in Tenyidie, the common dialect of ten Tenyimi tribes. They are Khrüvolü Keyho from the Chakhesang tribe, who is the first among the Naga to have earned a Ph.D in the said subject, and Neiphrezonuo Mepfhüo from the Angami tribe. They achieved the feat in the month of May, 2016, at Nagaland University. The achievement speaks more as both the two achievers are women.
Mention be made that Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu was conferred an honorary Ph.D degree for his contribution in promoting Tenyidie. Academically, it is on record that Khrüvolü is the first among the Naga.
So far there has been no other Naga who has earned a Ph.D in any other Naga dialect. It was learnt that, except Tenyidie, the other local vernaculars registered under Nagaland University were yet to upgrade their academic course beyond the master’s level.
It was a great achievement for the Tenyimi community and the Tenyidie subject in particular when the two women earned their Ph.D last year. Tenyidie holds the distinction of being the first Naga vernacular to be introduced in the Nagaland Board of School Education and Nagaland University.
Khrüvolü Keyho hails from Chozuba village under Phek district. She is the daughter of Sülülhü Keyho and late Nganelü Keyho. 35 year-old Khrüvolü, who is still single, is the youngest amongst 12 siblings.
To her credit, Khrüvolü has authored three books, two of which were released by K.G. Kenye, Member of Parliament, Rajya Sabha, at the inaugural function of the Ura Academy 46th Tenyidie Seminar on May 24 evening.
The recently published books are Lisi Mhathu (Articles & Research Paper) and Tenyidie Diemvü Kephrü (The Study of Tenyidie Literature). Her first book, titled Tenyimia Naga Liecielierhie Kechü Dorhü (Technique of Agriculture of Tenyimia Naga), was published in 2015 during the 45th Ura Academy Tenyidie Seminar. She completed her Ph.D working on the thesis paper - Tenyidie Geizo Cabo Dze Kephrü (Thematic Study of Tenyidie).
Khrüvolü serves as an assistant professor (Guest Faculty) at Nagaland University’s department of Tenyidie. She is also the editor of a bimonthly magazine ‘Ura Dze’. She did her early schooling at Government Primary School of Chozuba, and later went on to matriculate from Government High School of Chozuba. She passed her 10+2 from Alder College, Kohima, graduated from Kohima College with Tenyidie honors, and went on to complete her postgraduate at NU.
The second Naga to earn a doctorate in Tenyidie, Neiphrezonuo Mepfhüo hails from Kohima village. The third amongst five siblings, she is the daughter of Nguneizo and Dziesekhrieü.
She told Eastern Mirror that she was on the verge of completing two books likely to be published by the end of this year.
Neiphrezonuo, who is also still single, matriculated from Khedi Baptist English School, Kohima and completed her 10+2 from Baptist College, Kohima. She graduated from Koghima College with Tenyidie honours and went on to complete her master’s from Nagaland University.
