KOHIMA — The all-girl NCC band from North East Region (NER), who called themselves NER Girls Band comprising talented musicians from two Catholic educational institutions namely St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Lerie, in Kohima and St. Francis de Sales Higher Secondary School, Naringi, in Guwahati recently scripted history by representing the region for the first time to perform at the 75th Republic Day celebration on January 26 in New Delhi.
In a historic moment for St. Mary's Higher Secondary School in Kohima, 25 junior wing cadets from classes 8 and 9 were among the 45-member band that participated in the Republic Day parade at Kartavya Path, wherein French President, Emmanuel Macron, attended the event as the chief guest with the President of India, Droupadi Murmu.
The 25 junior wing cadets from St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School, Lerie, included Shulia Susan, Mhashezonuo Chaya, Katokali Chophi, Bekhumla Yimkhiung, Diana Ningombam, Kethosenuo, Thejasinuo Rüpreo, Kezhalenuo Solo, Kaiza Sophia, Rüvie-u Solo, Keneingunuo Yano, Veralu Tenenu, Priti Sukla Baidya, Ketoulhounuo Catherine We-o, Menuu Lohe, Kethosino Mejura, Rosemary Basumatary, Diya Narzary, Jean Harlong, Lakap Chemphang, Kezhanguno Khristin Naleo, Ruokuoneinuo Rupreo, Thongkoi Shiu, Jongtie Khiam and Puja Sharma.
Eastern Mirror met the participants in Kohima after their return from New Delhi.
The participants have expressed pride to represent the northeast region at the Republic Day parade. They described marching in uniform on Kartavya Path in front of thousand spectators as most memorable moment of the event.
Besides making new friends from different directorates, the participants disclosed that they have learned to work hard. It was informed that they have learned other cultures and traditions during the camp.
Participants further informed that they have jointly celebrated Pongal, Lohri and Magh Bihu during the camp.
Meanwhile, Kekhrieseno Solo, Associate NCC Officer (ANO), informed that the 45 band members were honoured by Maj. Gen. Gagan Deep, ADG NCC, NER, at the Army Transit Camp in Narangi, Guwahati, on February 1.
