MOKOKCHUNG — Observing that many Naga youth with various degrees were left without any job, minister of Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, has advised the students not to pursue education for mere degree but with a purpose.
The minister stated this during the 39th general conference of the Ongpangkong Kaketshir Mungdang (OKM) in Kupza village under Mokokchung district on Thursday. He urged the students to get rid from the shackles of old education system and pursue a liberated education in accordance with the demand of the modern world.
Referring to a survey, he stated that educated unemployed youth in the state comprised of 30 percent, who are still dependent. He added that if 20-35% are engaged in agriculture sector, then there would be an abundant food supply for the state.
“Use your degree judiciously because the ideas you envision through your education are yours alone,” he said and advised the students to inculcate dignity of labour.
The minister further suggested that entrepreneurship is the only way for Naga youth to achieve success and be self-reliant.
Also speaking on the occasion, president of Ao Students’ Conference (AKM), Lanutoshi Aier, cautioned that “If we remained or stuck in the past glory as an advanced community, then we would be producing youth who are liability and not assets to the society.”
In this connection, he called upon the students to ponder upon the issue seriously to overcome the hurdle in advance. He suggested the student community to set-up a think-tank group to work out a solution on how to reverse liability youth into a productive asset.
President of Central Nagaland Students’ Association (CNSA), R Sunep Pongen, stated that Naga political issue is the oldest in the sub-continent of India and is still pending “because the people have been hijacked by pretending to sleep knowing what we need to do.”
In this connection, he called upon the Naga people to wake up, open their eyes, ears and mouth to raise their voice without any doubts and asked that it is rightfully theirs.
Earlier, Metsubo gave away meritorious awards to more than 30 plus recipients and also released the Limketer souvenir at the event.
