DIMAPUR — A five-day self-help group (SHG)-village resource person (VRP) training programme on social audit was launched on Monday by the Nagaland State Social Audit Agency (NSSAA).

Thirty participants from SHGs under the Nagaland State Rural Livelihood Mission (NSRLM) in Kohima district will be trained during the programme. The inaugural event was held at the SIRD conference hall in Kohima.

According to an update, this initiative aims to create a community cadre of VRPs from among members of SHGs who will be engaged in the social audit process at the village level.

Imtitoshi I Jamir, director of NSSAA, SAU Nagaland, informed that the targeted SHGs will be trained covering schemes of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS), Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), and 15th Finance Commission under the Rural Development department, as well as the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP) under the Social Welfare Department.

The mission director of NSRLM Nagaland, Imtimenla, said that the training programme is a platform that will enable the SHGs to get involved in bringing about positive changes by upholding the principles of transparency and accountability in programme implementations of different schemes.

The five-day training will include both theoretical sessions and practical exercises to fully prepare the participants for conducting social audits.

The NSSAA, SAU Nagaland, aims to train 510 participants from SHGs across all districts of Nagaland in a phased approach.
