IMPHAL — The Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) at Lamphelpat in Imphal, a premier medical institute in North-east, has been granted permission to start kidney (renal) transplantation.
The Directorate of Health Services, Government of Manipur has granted the permission and the registration has been accorded under sections 14 and 15 of the Transplantation of Human organs (Amendment), 2011.
In view of the development, the director of RIMS said that it would be of immense benefit to the people of the state, as the institute will be able to perform kidney (renal) transplantation procedures at a reasonable rate.
The doctors of RIMS will soon perform the first kidney transplant surgery at the facility, it was informed.
