Dimapur, Nov. 27 (EMN): A book titled ‘Once upon the Hills’ written by Dr. Rakhee Kalita Moral was launched on November 26 at The White Owl Book Lounge, Chümoukedima.

An update informed that the book was released by Dr. Anungla Aier, retired director of Higher Education, government of Nagaland. Speaking on the event, Dr. Anungla stated that the book was distinct since it carries the perspective of an outsider from a neighbouring state about Naga women.

In the author’s note, Dr. Rakhee shared that the idea of the book took birth three years ago through the Humanities across Borders (HaB) programme and thanked Ra Acharya, assistant professor at USTM, and those who have journeyed with her in the making of the book during the pandemic.

Since the book is on Naga women, she noted, “It is a Naga women’s book, it is not my book, it is yours.”

“This book is an attempt to bridge the gap of how the Naga community and its women have been perceived and what their everyday real experiences and practices are,” Rakhee stated.

The book has a QR code scanner in every article, which would further lead the readers to similar topics. Thus, it is an example of the pedagogic shift of the present where traditional teaching learning methods intersect the digital life through the QR code that are inserted in the book, it stated.

Vitono Gugu Haralu, who helped the author in assisting the author’s research work in Nagaland, chaired the programme.

The author, Dr. Rakhee Kalita Moral, is an associate professor of English and head of Centre for Women's Studies at Cotton University and project coordinator of Humanities across Borders (IIAS), Leiden.

The book would be availabled at Heritage Publishing House, Dimapur, and Cotton University, Guwahati, it stated.
