DIMAPUR — The Lok Sabha election 2024 in Dimapur and Chümoukedima districts on Friday saw peaceful polling.
Upon visiting the polling stations, voters were seeing standing in queue to cast their vote. The police personnel and officials on duty at the sites also claimed that there was no problem or issues.
At Diphupar local ground under Ghaspani-I constituency, the chairman of Diphupar Village Council, Ghuzui Shohe, updated that there were seven polling stations under Diphupar. He informed that the voting was peaceful and added that the village council along with GBs and youth are ready to control even if any problems arises.
He stated that the voters turn out this time is comparatively higher than the 2019 Lok Sabha election. Informing that they stand on “one man one vote,” he stated they will keep check on proxy voters and only those voters with voter ID proof would be allowed to vote.
Brushing rumours on proxy voting, he said that they have kept the village council members, GBs and youth organisations at the polling stations to check such practices.
Meanwhile, the GB of Diphupar village, Pukalu Awomi, informed that no proxy voting was allowed at the polling station.
KN Ngullie, GB from Purana Bazaar, also observed that the turnout of voters was higher this election compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha election and stated that the voting process was going on in a peaceful manner in all the seven polling stations.
Mokokchung records 89.76% voting
Mokokchung district recorded 89.76% voting during the 18th Lok Sabha election held on Friday.
The deputy commissioner of Mokokchung informed that the polling concluded peacefully across all the 239 polling stations without untoward incident. It was observed that many senior citizens and fresh voters in large number turnout to exercise their adult franchise.
The INC candidate, S Supongmeren Jamir, cast his vote in his native village Longsa.
Sources said that five Company of central security forces and five company from 2 NAP and NAP (IR) were deployed in Mokokchung district for the conduct of election.
According to the official report, 21 Tuli AC recorded 90.03 % voting, while Arkakong AC recorded 86.75%, followed with Impur AC at 87.28%, Angetyongpang AC at 79.85%, Mongoya AC at 94.65%, Aonglenden AC at 85.45%, Mokokchung town AC at 85%, Koridang AC at 91.25% and Jangpetkong AC at 83.52%.
