DIMAPUR— With an aim to reach out to the trained and placed candidates of Deen-Dayal Upadhyaya Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY), Nagaland State Rural Livelihoods Mission (NSRLM) organised an alumni meet in Chennai on June 9 and Bengaluru on June 13. DDU-GKY is a nationwide placement-linked skill training programme funded by the Ministry of Rural Development, Government of India.

An update from NSRLM stated that the mission director and joint secretary of Rural Development department, Imtimenla, delivered the keynote address in both the events. She stated that Nagaland currently is partnering with 15 project implementing agencies (PIA) offering training in more than seven sectors. She congratulated the rural youth for coming out of their homes to stand on their own and to support their families.

Imtimenla stated that alumni meet is an important component of the scheme to provide healthy ground for experience sharing by the working youths about the challenges and opportunities in private industries. Citing the risks and security concerns raised by parents back home, the mission director urged all the participants to stay in touch with the students and fellow communities wherever they are working.

She further encouraged the gathering to spread the message that employment problem is only for those who are unwilling to work or move out of the comfort of their homes.

They also encouraged the alumni to register in their respective unions so that any issues faced by the Naga youth could be addressed by the unions.

Sharing their experiences, the alumni of DDU GKY stated that the programme had enabled them to become contributors in the family, opened new avenues to professionally grow and think beyond opportunities in Nagaland.

It mentioned that more than 6000 rural youth have been trained and around 3500 candidates have found job placements in different parts of the country since the inception of DDU-GKY in Nagaland during FY 2018-19.

About 55 alumni attended the meeting in Chennai, while about 99 alumni attended the meeting in Bengaluru. Wapangtoshi Longkumer, pastor of NCF Chennai, and Nikato Yepto, pastor of NCF Bengaluru, also attended the meeting.
