DIMAPUR — A team of officials from Nagaland State Commission for Women (NSCW) led by its chairperson, W Nginyeih Konyak, along with members Akokla Longchar and Kekhrienuo Meyase successfully concluded the second phase of its annual tour to all the 16 districts of Nagaland.
An update from NSCW stated that the last wheel tour included Dimapur, Peren and the two new districts of Niuland and Chümoukedima. The extensive tour was aimed at assessing the liveability and the overall condition and status of women in various districts, to evaluate and gather first-hand information on the implementation of various women-centric programmes and schemes initiated by both the state and central governments.
It stated that during the tour, NSCW team closely examined the execution of critical legislations such as the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act and Prevention of Sexual Harassment Act (POSH Act) which are pivotal in ensuring the safety and security of women at home as well as at their workplaces.
The team also visited key institutions including jails, hospitals, women police stations and Sakhi- One stop centres to assess their working environment, living conditions of female inmates in jail and OSC and the liveability aspects of the women employees.
Besides, the team had an interactive meeting with Naga Women Hoho, Dimapur (NWHD) and Eastern Naga Women Organisation Dimapur unit (ENWOD) on various issues related to women.
Additionally, the team made courtesy calls on deputy commissioners (DC) Dimapur Commissioner of Police, Superintendents of Police (SP) and District Welfare Officers (DWO), who are also the designated district protection officers for domestic violence to collect comprehensive data on the overall status of women, particularly focusing on crime rates and other related issues.
The chairperson, during the course of interactions, emphasised the important role of district administrations, police and all other agencies on collective cooperation for the protection, safety and security of women in the districts.
It mentioned that the tour was part of the NSCW's on-going commitment to enhancing the welfare and rights of women across Nagaland. It added that the inputs gained from the tour would contribute to refining existing programmes and shaping future policies to better address the needs and challenges faced by women in the state.
