DIMAPUR — In Nagaland, as of January 31, 2024, a total of 15,336 self-help groups (SHGs) have been mobilised under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana—National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM).
This information was provided by Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti, the Union Minister of State for Rural Development, in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday.
She stated that the Ministry of Rural Development, among other things, is implementing DAY-NRLM and the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA), both of which involve SHGs, and that these schemes are being implemented through state governments or union territory administrations.
According to her, DAY-NRLM is being implemented across the country in a mission mode since 2011 with the aim of bringing at least one woman member from each rural poor household into the fold of SHGs and supporting them to undertake economic activities.
As of January 31, 2024, approximately 9.98 crore women households had been mobilised into 90.39 lakh SHGs across the country, she informed.
The minister stated that under DAY-NRLM, various sub-schemes are being implemented to enhance the sustainable income of the rural poor. Within the scope of the mission and through converging schemes of other ministries, SHG members are being facilitated to promote sustainable livelihoods, with the aim of reaching a minimum annual income of one lakh rupees, she added.
According to her, memoranda of understanding (MoUs) have been signed with various companies for collaborations with SHGs, including online marketing of SHG products. Furthermore, some states have also developed their own e-commerce platforms to support the marketing of SHG products.
